Glamaroma Tea Tree Astringent Toner | Review

People mostly are of the opinion that toners are an additional (and unnecessary) step in a skincare routine and that if you cleanse your face properly with a face wash, you can eliminate toners altogether. But my dear people, this is not the case. I’ll give you more than one reasons why you shouldn’t skip a toner, in addition to sharing my thoughts on Glamaroma Tea Tree Astringent Toner.

What is a toner? Why are they used?

Back in the day, toners were mostly astringents and their primary function was to remove the traces of makeup/pollution/excess sebum that were left post using facewash. But they have evolved with time and today they do more than just toning.

Astringents are toning solutions that contain solvent alcohol, witch hazel, vinegar, etc. These are said to be suitable for normal to oily skinned people (without sensitive skin) as they help in getting rid of the excess oil from the skin and tightens pores.

Toners are a milder version of astringents which may or may not contain alcohol. They contain various hydrating ingredients in addition to actives that cater to various skin concerns. Such toners can be used by all skin types including sensitive skinned people as well, depending upon the ingredients used.

Functions of Toners/astringents ~
  • remove leftover traces of makeup/sebum/dirt left after cleansing
  • restore the pH level of the skin after using facewash
  • improve skin’s barrier
  • and perform additional functions like providing a boost of hydration (hydrating toners), providing mild exfoliation by removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores (AHA/BHA), help in soothing and calming the skin (soothing toners)

The first three functions are common across majority toners. The latter is delivered as per their formulation and actives added. There are toners that provide brightening effects, anti-ageing effects, etc. Basically the list is endless.

Glamaroma Tea Tree Astringent Toner comes is a transparent bottle with a spray mechanism which is very convenient. After washing your face and patting it dry, spray some toner on a cotton pad and gently swipe all across your face barring the eye area. Then follow up with a moisturizer. Though the packaging says spray directly onto the face, I wouldn’t advise that as some of it might accidentally go into the eyes. (why take the risk?)

Because the bottle is transparent, it becomes easy to keep a check on how much product is left.

Looking at the ingredients itself, you’ll feel how beneficial this toner is going to be. It contains tea tree extract, vitamin c extract, cinnamon extract, ginger extract, glycerin, aloevera extract, witch hazel, neem and tulsi extracts, green tea, rose petals, sodium gluconate (pH modifier), preservatives and tea tree essential oil.

The list if full of ingredients that are acne-treating, soothing and fading acne scars by providing brightening effect.

My verdict on Glamaroma Tea Tree Astringent Toner:

Now, this is an amazing find for me. Though I thoroughly enjoy hydrating toners, I also prefer using astringents quite frequently. Glamaroma Tea Tree Astringent Toner is very gentle despite having astringent properties and it did not make my skin dry at all. It helped in treating my acne and also helped in fading their marks. The toner has a pH in the range 5-6 and that is excellent for restoring the skin’s pH after facewash and improving skin barrier. 100% repurchasing this in future as my skin loved it effects.

PROs ~

  • good for people having normal to oily acne-prone skin
  • excellent astringent without alcohol
  • treating acne and blemishes
  • restoring pH of the skin post facewash
  • improving skin barrier
  • budget-friendly
  • vegan, cruelty-free, Indian brand, natural extracts

If you have very sensitive skin that reacts to witch hazel or essential oils, please stay away from this toner. Always do a patch test before applying a new product all over your face.
