The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG | Review

Sharing yet another favourite product from The Ordinary brand. I am amazed by how amazingly effective and affordable their products are! I have been on the longest hunt for eye creams which hydrate yet don’t feel heavy. And my quest ended when I purchased The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG. Read on if you too are on a hunt for an affordable yet effective product which treats under eye problems.

Packaging: It comes in dark glass bottle (UV protective) with dropper mechanism, perfect for its texture. I wouldn’t call glass packaging travel-friendly but I have travelled with this wherever I’ve been.

Texture: The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG has a viscous serum-like texture. It applies easily and you hardly need a touch to spread it under the eyes (unlike few creams which need to be rubbed hard in order to get absorbed in the skin). It blends in seamlessly and gets absorbed in no time, making it perfect for use under makeup as well.

There are 2 star ingredients:

Caffeine: It has anti-inflammatory properties, reduced redness and puffiness of the skin, reduces the appearance of cellulite on the skin, tightens and firms the skin providing anti-aging benefits.

EGCG stands for Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside (mouthful!): It is a compound found in green tea which has antioxidant properties and reduces the production of melanin, in turn lightening the skin (and pigmentation if any). (1)

My verdict on The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG:

This product worked almost instantly on my under eyes. In just a couple of days I felt that my under eyes were much brighter and after a week my husband noticed the same (better late than never). Although I had never worried much about my mildly dark under eyes, I was always sceptical about fine lines. I needed something which hydrates and doesn’t feel greasy because I wear kajal every day. As you can notice in the above pic, despite having fine lines, my under eye area looks firm and brightened. My kajal doesn’t smudge or fade after using this serum. I have been using this for the past one and a half year (almost) in the morning as well as during the night. Can’t ask for anything more!

I would highly recommend that you try this product for yourself. Though it costs around a thousand rupees, a single bottle will last you six months easily, if not more. Also, the time taken to show results will vary from person to person, please keep this in mind. And if you are not getting enough sleep or if you are glued to your cell phone till late night, every night, then no cream is going to get rid of those dark circles!
