The Ordinary Buffet | Why you need this serum in your life?
I know, it took me very long to review The Ordinary products but I had to really make up my mind before spilling out my thoughts. A lot of you (really a lot) have requested me to make a post on The Ordinary Buffet serum. Today I shall be not only sharing my thoughts on this serum but also will give my reasons so as to why you need this product in your life.
About the brand: Deciem is an umbrella of brands and The Ordinary is one of them. The brand has an individual product for almost all kinds of skin conditions. What is so unique about The Ordinary is that they are so specific about their ingredients and their affordability. You can learn more about the brand here.
Price: 19.90USD (approx. Rs.1250) for 30ml product. Though the quantity seems less, my bottle lasted me for good 9 months. (I used it daily in my morning skincare routine and one drop is enough for one time use).
Described as a Multi-Technology peptide serum, Buffet is true to its name. It is a combination of all ingredients which work as a treat for the skin. It comes in a white frosted glass bottle which gives a luxurious feel to it. There is a pipette (dropper) mechanism which makes it easy to take the product out in a controlled manner.
The texture of The Ordinary Buffet is gooey. It is slightly milky, (almost) transparent, thick liquid with a negligible chemical fragrance. Despite being thick, it gets absorbed into the skin quickly and doesn’t leave a slimy layer. It also doesn’t feel heavy and is perfect to layer under the makeup.
How & when to include in your skincare routine? Apply few drops of this serum all over your face post cleansing and before moisturizer. This can be used both during day and night. Also, it goes well with almost all actives, hence no need to remember the active application sequence!
Ingredients in The Ordinary Buffet:
Syn-Ake: a small synthetic peptide that helps in reducing the appearance of wrinkles and expression lines. It enables the face to relax, reducing wrinkles but without losing the ability to help people express themselves. It’s fast acting, long lasting and fully reversible. (1)
Matrixyl Synthe‘6 is a peptide produced from derivatives of the amino acids lysine and methione sulfone. It regulates cell activity, wound repair and collagen tissue remodeling. (2)
Matrixyl 3000: is a skin-restoring ingredient with anti-aging benefits. (3)
Argirelox: a peptide that fights expression wrinkles & smooths out fine lines. (4)
Hyaluronic acid: a well-known humectant, reduces flaking and restores suppleness while moisturizing the skin.
Amino acids: regulate protein metabolism. In addition to hydration, they also may promote cellular repair, provide antioxidant protection & boost UV protection. (5)
My verdict on The Ordinary Buffet:
I’ve been using this serum since March 2017 (precisely) and TBH it was very difficult for me to make up my mind in the first couple of months. Because I wasn’t noticing any improvement in my skin texture. But then one fine day I suddenly felt my skin smoothen out and glowy. I really can’t say how much time it took to work but now (after 10 months) I can clearly see a difference in my skin. (refer to the picture below)
My skin went from dull & textured to glowy, smooth and firmed. For me, it worked with time and not instantly. Of course, the time will vary from person to person and the level of improvement will vary too. But I am in love with this serum and will continue using it. Btw, I just finished my first bottle last month and already have a backup with me! Also, it’s not just this serum working, I have incorporated other products as well which have worked in conjunction with each other. Needless to mention, I recommend The Ordinary Buffet to anyone and everyone. It doesn’t cause breakouts or irritate the most sensitive skin.
Wrapping this super long post but before I end, let me answer the million dollar question “where to buy The Ordinary Buffet?” I know it’s irritating that The Ordinary products aren’t available in Indian market but there are many international sites that ship to India.
- Beauty Bay (with approx. Rs.700 shipping)
- Asos (with approx Rs.300 shipping)
- Lookfantastic(with approx. Rs.500 shipping)
- Instagram resellers-you can get for around 1800-2000Rs)
I got my first bottle directly from the Deciem store, shipping fees weren’t whooping 38$ at that time. Got my second bottle from a friend in London. Hoping they launch on Nykaa! Soon.

For your acne marks Akriti, you should try Tamanu oil. Please read its review before making any purchase! It has worked amazingly for removing my pigmentation effectively and quickly. You can use this simultaneously for extra nourishment which helps in improving skin texture and also pigmentation.
It worked on your skin. I am planning to haul skincare from The ordinary this summers
