I have been recommending against physical exfoliation since years now. But gone are the days where you get only walnut shell powder as scrubs. New ingredients and techniques have made it possible for physical exfoliation to be gentle nowadays. So don’t let walnut scrubs beguile you anymore because I am
The post Innisfree Green Barley Gommage Peeling Mask | Review appeared first on MakeupAndSmiles.
]]>Gommage is a French word which translates to exfoliate/scrub/erase in English. It is a French exfoliation technique where both physical and chemical exfoliants are used. The physical exfoliation is performed by cellulose and chemical usually contains enzymes which are much milder than chemical peels/strong acids. Hence a gommage mask will be suitable for those having sensitive skin as well.
Price: Rs.900 for 120g.

Nykaa: https://nyk0.page.link/Nm7JnTTdgZGp8U2EA
Also available on Myntra, Flipkart, Purplle, etc but is currently out of stock ATM.
Wash your face with a facewash and pat it dry. Then apply a thin layer of the peeling mask all over the face carefully avoiding areas around the eyes and lips. Keep it for 2-3 minutes so that the acids/enzymes get time to work on our skin. After 2-3 minutes, start massaging and you’ll notice small balls forming (pilling). Keep buffing the skin and then wash with plain water. Don’t use a facewash again after this mask. Always use an exfoliator only during the night time. Always!
Steps:
Facewash ~ Innisfree Green Barley Gommage Peeling Mask ~ Toner ~ Serum (optional) ~ Moisturizer
Like I’ve already mentioned, it combines the effect of both physical exfoliation and chemical exfoliation. The cellulose (the white pilling particles you see in the mask) help in buffing the skin, though very gently, and thus help in removal of dead skin cells. The chemical exfoliation is taken care by green barley vinegar which contains naturally occurring AHAs that help smooth and clarify the skin. Hence this technique of exfoliation gives best of both worlds without compromising the skin. What more do you need?
I’ve been using this peeling mask for more than 6 months, once every week (sometimes once every two weeks) and still a lot of product is left. My skin feels fresh, smooth and clarified post wash. This definitely imparts glow and brightening effect. The scrubbing particles (cellulose) are so fine and non-abrasive that my skin wasn’t irritated at all. This is definitely less effective than strong peels out there in the market. But because it is mild, it can be safely used by everyone, even beginners. The chances of skin irritation are pretty less when it comes to gommage masks. I’ll highly recommend this mask to one and all because it is so freaking good!
One thing to keep in mind is that, physical exfoliators give temporary results because they don’t penetrate the skin. They simply remove dead skin cells from the surface. While chemical peels give results that last longer as they penetrate certain layers and work from within.
Suitable for ~ all skin types, all seasons (unless you are sensitive to any ingredient in the list)
Disclaimer: don’t over-exfoliate your skin, be it peels, acids or gommage masks.
Another physical exfoliator that I love from Innisfree, check out here.

The only sunscreen filter used here is Titanium Dioxide which provides protection against UVB and UVA2 and not against UVA1. Ideally, sunscreen must protect our skin from all the three kinds of UV rays. This is a physical/mineral sunscreen. To know more about sunscreen and sun protection, please read this post.
The list includes a bunch of extracts, silicones, humectants and essential oils.
Innisfree Blueberry Rebalancing Watery Sun Cream has a runny lotion-like texture. The packaging with a narrow nozzle is apt for such texture. The tube is pretty sturdy & spill-proof and hence it is good to travel with. It has a mild fragrance which is not bothersome.
Though the texture looks light-weight, it is not! The cream makes my skin look more oily instantly. It also leaves a grey cast which alters with my makeup and doesn’t look good. As seen in the picture below, one can easily notice the grey cast on the right side of the hand as opposed to the left side. I feel I had gone into nikhedonic state too early. The good thing is it didn’t irritate my skin or broke it out. I used it over active acne and I faced no issues.
Good for: people having dry to normal skin type, mostly fair (in that case grey cast will be minimum/invisible)
Not meant for: people with combination to oily skin, or visible pores as this is going to magnify your pores. Also, this sunscreen is not good for medium to dark skin because of the grey cast it imparts. If your skin can’t tolerate mentioned essential oils, please stay away from this.

]]>I have been double cleansing for more than 2 years now. Cleansing balms and oils are LOVE to me. I know, double cleansing can be overwhelming for some, and that is why we will talk about it elaborately in this post. Simultaneously, I’ll also share my thoughts on Innisfree Green
The post Innisfree Green Tea cleansing oil | Double cleansing | Kbeauty appeared first on MakeupAndSmiles.
]]>Price: The cleansing oil retails for Rs.1400 and we get 150ml product. This is a reasonable deal for us because options for cleansing oils/balms are comparatively less in India.
Availability:
I got mine from Nykaa. To purchase click here.
Double cleansing means cleaning the face twice, first with an oil based product then with a water based product (in very simple terms). The first step would be using a micellar water/bi-phased makeup remover/cleansing cream/oil/balm. The second step would be using a facewash. Double cleansing makes sure every trace of makeup, pollution, dirt has been removed. (You’ll feel yourself that your face is squeaky clean without being dry.)
Contrary to the belief, double cleansing is not just only for removing makeup. By the end of the day, your facial skin accumulates lots of dirt, grime & its own sebum in addition to sunscreen, skincare & makeup. All of this should be cleaned before going to bed. A conventional micellar water/bi-phase makeup remover will not be able to remove all these. Hence, double cleansing!
Innisfree Green Tea cleansing oil belongs to the second category.
There are certain ingredients that may break you out so please do a patch test first before applying the oil all over your face. Patch test means use the product on a small area usually on jaw line or just below the cheek area and then observe for 24-48 hours whether any reaction/breakouts occur. If not, you can use the product without any problem.
For makeup lovers like me, Innisfree Green Tea cleansing oil is a boon. It removes even water-proof mascaras which are otherwise very difficult to remove completely. It also removes stubborn matte lipsticks and leaves no stain behind.
As far as cleansing oils are concerned, there is absolutely no necessity of extracts or actives in them because at the end of the day, all shall go in the drain.
Needless to mention, I love this cleansing oil to bits. It feels like a light-weight oil with good amount of slip, doesn’t feel heavy like conventional oils. I can remove my most stubborn makeup and sunscreen with ease, without any excessive rubbing or tugging the skin. I make sure to use it every single night, whether I’ve worn makeup or not. It is equally important to remove sunscreen too which sometimes a facewash can’t remove on its own. Innisfree Green Tea cleansing oil hasn’t broken me out or caused any kind of irritation. It doesn’t irritate or sting my eyes. I usually don’t open my eyes while cleansing but those who do might feel their eye-sight becoming hazy , which goes away once water is splashed. Nothing uncomfortable though!
I’d still recommend you try cleansing oils in general if not Innisfree Green Tea cleansing oil. They’ll change your PM routine game, for sure.
I have shown a little demo on how to incorporate this cleansing oil in your routine. Do watch it on my IGTV here.

]]>Price: Rs.450 for 100ml product.
To purchase the cleanser from Nykaa, click: https://nyk0.page.link/VrNtdN4qYHFcjJ3T7
Check out other products (skin, lotion, cream) in the range here.
Please refer to the picture for the complete ingredients list. It contains blueberry fruit extract right in the 7th place which contains vitamins A,C,E promoting cell turn over, prevents sun damage, tightens the skin and keeps acne at bay. There’s also allantoin (provides skin soothing and calming), orange peel oil (clears out the skin and boosts radiance), lavender oil (fights acne and wrinkles, also brightens).
My pH strips showed the pH in between 5 and 6 hence the claim of 5.5 pH is correct. It is very important to use mildly acidic facewash as it is beneficial for our skin and prevents damaging the acid mantle (skin barrier). Higher pH facewash feel drying and cause harm to the skin in the long run.
I absolutely adore the minimalist packaging. The tube packaging is apt for this cleanser. Innisfree blueberry 5.5 cleanser has a thick-whipped texture. It lathers decently and cleanses well. My skin feels less dry post wash when compared to other facewashes.
I really like this cleanser. It is affordable, easily available (Nykaa) and works well. Innisfree blueberry cleanser didn’t aggrevate acne or caused any irritation to my skin. It helped in soothing my skin and my skin felt balanced because of the acidic pH. Guys, it is really really important to use low pH cleansers, if you want to know the science behind, please let me know. I’ll make a detailed post on my Instagram.
If you are willing to try a kbeauty brand cleanser and don’t want to shell out much money then this is the perfect choice for you. Just keep your eyes are nose closed while washing your face. Lol. (being rhetoric, don’t take it seriously)

The post Innisfree Cherry Blossom Jelly Cream | Review appeared first on MakeupAndSmiles.
]]>Innisfree Cherry Blossom range consists of a Lotion, Skin (essence), Tone Up cream and Jelly cream. I was more intrigued by the jelly cream as at that time the line hadn’t launched in India. Also, as my skin is dehydrated-oily, I am naturally gravitated towards hydrating creams.
Price: Rs.1700 for 50ml product. You don’t need more product hence a little will go a long way.
Availability: The range is available on Nykaa and across Innisfree stores.
Purchase from here: https://nyk0.page.link/rSKZ (Nykaa)
Water / Aqua / Eau, Dipropylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Betaine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Fragrance / Parfum, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Disodium Edta, Ethylhexylglycerin, Propanediol, Prunus Yedoensis Leaf Extract, Tocopherol
This is an oil free formula which is packed with numerous skin hydrating and conditioning ingredients. It also contains Niacinamide right in the 3rd place which helps in regulating oil/sebum production, provides brightening, fights aging and treats hyper-pigmentation.
The formula is pretty basic and contains minimal ingredients which I appreciate.
The texture of Innisfree Cherry Blossom Jelly Cream is a clear gel which feels very hydrating and smooth. It feels slightly silicone-y but there aren’t any silicones in the ingredient list. The jelly cream provides intense hydration and can be easily incorporated in a skincare routine comprising of multiple products. It smells just like a cherry blossom garden but a very strong version of it.
My verdict on Innisfree Cherry Blossom Jelly Cream:
I quite enjoyed using the jelly cream. It doesn’t feel hydrating enough when used as a stand alone cream but when I layer this on top of serums/essence/oils, it works amazingly well. I use it as a sleeping cream and love to lather the gel generously. It imparts a healthy glow without feeling greasy and the hydration stays for long. My skin doesn’t feel dry after a couple hours (which usually happens while using gels).
The only con for me would be the very strong fragrance. It is so strong that sensitive noses will definitely find it bothersome. Luckily (touchwood), my skin doesn’t react to fragrances hence I can easily get away with them.

]]>I was never a mist person! But then this is a statement about the past. Now my skin loves mists. I was really happy with Seer Secrets facial mist but then decided to up the game by adding a korean product as well. My skin loves green tea as an ingredient
The post Innisfree green tea mineral mist | Review appeared first on MakeupAndSmiles.
]]>
The Innisfree green tea mineral mist retails for Rs. 750 and we get 150ml product. There’s also a 50ml variant that retails for Rs. 450. It has a shelf life of 36 months. Innisfree products are easily available online and in their stores (in selected cities as of now). I got mine from Nykaa.
The mist comes in a tin bottle with a spray nozzle. The nozzle dispenses such minute particles of the mist that no water droplets are formed on the face. But at the same time, it does give an instant boost of hydration. As claimed by the brand, this can also be used over makeup to get a fresh look instantly. (I’ve never used it that way though)
Innisfree really knows its ingredients game. When they showcase the main ingredient in a product, they really make sure to place it in the top row of the list. Here, Camellia Sinensis leaf extract is the very first ingredient! To know the entire list, visit their website here.
Why is a mist important?
Before makeup: A mist provides an instant boost of hydration. It’s best when used right after applying toner which provides the first layer of hydration to the skin preparing it for the skincare routine. (This is how I use it)
After makeup: The application of makeup products can make the skin dry from within. A fine mist like Innisfree green tea mineral mist can provide that lost hydration without the hassle of removing makeup or touchup.
My skin loves this product to bits. I love to drench my face in the very fine microparticles of the mist. It preps up my skin and prepares it for my skincare and or makeup routine. It has a faint smell of green tea and is not at all bothersome. In fact, it is refreshing and feels soothing. This hasn’t cause breakouts or irritate my skin. I have used more than half of it and already willing to repurchase. There’s a micro version of the same product and I am eyeing it the next.
Though, a little on the pricier side, I would advise you to try this out yourself to experience the results. I see skincare as an investment hence I don’t mind the price. Also, this bottle will last you good 3 months when used once daily.

Price: Rs.570 for 5gm product.
Availability: Exclusive to Nykaa & Innisfree stores.
There are many variants (packaging wise) available & I have the emoji variant. I had purchased mine from Yesstyle.com a while back. But now Innisfree is releasing more variants on Nykaa as well in their stores. You should definitely get your hands on the Lucky Stone edition. They are so adorable!
I’ll be talking about my variant: emoji. The packaging is really cute. It seems as if you are holding an emoji in the hands. There is an inner lid which controls the amount of powder coming out of the tub. There is no problem with the product being spilled or being wasted.
The texture of Innisfree No Sebum mineral powder is very finely milled. It is the smoothest powder I have ever come across. As soon as you apply, it disappears into the skin giving it a matte finish. It doesn’t accentuate dry patches or look cakey.
I use this powder every single day! Literally every day. I apply it over my foundation/concealer on my T-zone and around my nose area. It surprisingly keeps my face looking like a shiny ball for a long time, irrespective of the type of foundation used. These days I am using hydrating foundations and enjoying them only because of the Innisfree No Sebum mineral powder. It doesn’t let my foundation slip or cake or turn oily on my T-zone. This is the only powder which I can use to set my under eyes. It not only sets but provides a beautiful finish without creasing and also blurs out the pores. I see a huge difference on days when I use Innisfree No Sebum mineral powder, my makeup stays much presentable till the very evening. It hasn’t broken me out or irritated my skin.

Price: Rs.750 for 150ml product. This is a very good deal!
Availability: Innisfree products are available at Nykaa and Amazon. They also have stores in selected cities across India.
Nykaa: https://nyk0.page.link/wYfEiBds2ZZ9zXTn9
Texture: It is a bubble cleanser which is quite unique because most cleansers are either gel based or cream based. The pump dispenses a dollop of foam when pressed which needs to be applied to the face. It lathers furthermore upon rubbing and coming in contact with water. I don’t take it near my eyes though. (why? continue reading to know!)
Water, Lauric Acid, Glycerin, Myristic Acid, Sorbitol, Peg-8, Potassium Hydroxide, Peg-75, Saccharomyces/Barley Seed Ferment Filtrate, Hordeum Vulgare Seed Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, Orchid Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Camellia Japonica Leaf Extract, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, Opuntia Coccinellifera Fruit Extract, Alcohol, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Propanediol, Disodium Edta, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Fragrance.
The ingredients list is nice. There is no SLS/SLeS, instead, there are many skin conditioning agents along with Glycerin amongst the topmost ingredients in the list. Barley has Azelaic acid which has inflammatory properties that fights acne and clogged pores. Fermented barley also enhances skin hydration. It also has natural AHAs (as claimed by Innisfree) that mildly exfoliates the skin.
I was really enjoying this cleanser as it deep cleanses my skin and has a different texture. It didn’t irritate my skin or cause acne. My skin didn’t feel very dry post wash and I also felt mild exfoliation. But then one fine day I decided to test the pH level and was shocked to see the litmus paper turn green! Which clearly shows that this cleanser has a pH of a minimum 8 (if not more) which is not at all good for acid mantle (natural sebum layer of the skin). Our skin is slightly acidic in nature and using products with high pH will only disrupt the protective barriers of the skin, causing harm in the long run.
Usually, high pH products will make your skin really dry but this didn’t. Maybe because of which I was unable to judge the pH. But now that I know, I use Innisfree Green Barley bubble cleanser 2-3 times a week. And once I finish the bottle, I am not going to repurchase this! High pH products really scare me out. (the fear is real)

]]>Hello! World. I’ve already shared my favourite beauty products, segment-wise, on my Insta posts last year (visit @makeup_and_smiles to know more). The post Products that didn’t work for me! appeared first on MakeupAndSmiles.
]]>
The shade is very pretty, no doubt, but it’s the texture that I have a problem with. The lipstick applies beautifully but then its downfall begins. First of all, the staying power is pathetic. It starts fading in less than 2 hours and gathers weirdly at one place. All in all, the look is not at all flattering and now I only use it during short visits to the grocery store or when at home! You can read the entire review here.
I know many people are going to judge me for putting these on the list but let’s be honest, these lipsticks are so drying that my lips can almost feel their life being sucked out. Again, I love the shades I have (Tan Fan & Brink Of Pink) and also adore those which I don’t have, but I simply cannot purchase these anymore. I need courage and a lot of self-motivation to use this for a long day. I love comfortable lippies with decent staying power.
I really love this shade, it is one of those colours which will suit each and every skintone. I find it drying too but the intensity is bearable. The only issue I have is that this lipstick is that it tends to crumble (ball-up) from the inner sides of the lips, which makes the lipstick very uncomfortable in the long run. I always have to touch up towards the inner side every 2-3 hours which I hate doing. And it’s not even sip-proof leave aside being kiss proof.
These lip crayons were much hyped during their launch because of which I ended up buying 2 shades at the same time. Now again, I am in love with these shades (Cotton Candy & Hot Pink Queen) and that’s the only reason I’ve not thrown these away. The texture is very crumbly and the lipstick tends to give a flaky look. You can read my post, wherein I’ve done a long rant about these, here.
This lipstick was one of those “Internet made me buy” things. Everything is nice about the lipstick except the formula. It’s very waxy and multiple swipes are needed for the colour to show up, which ends up stinging my lips. The application comes out uneven and patchy and I completely dislike it. I don’t know whether I received a wrong batch or my lipstick has reacted with air and turned into a burning monster but I just can’t stand this crayon anymore!
Nonetheless, I don’t dislike Sugar as a brand. I am still looking forward to getting a couple of shades out of their recent launch and also wish to try their upcoming lip creams.(don’t know their exact names)
Once again I believe I have received a wrong batch because I’ve not seen any negative review about these online! This shade, in particular, is not apt for Indian skintone but what bothers me most is the dry formula. It literally feels like you are rubbing a dry crayon on your lips. Plus the two shades just won’t blend with each other. Also, within a couple of week’s time, one side of the pencil gathered some white stuff on it (my product is very much under expiry date). Everything seems to be working in a not so good way for me in this case.
I received this product for free, in one of Nykaa’s offer, with another baby lips & I was super excited to try this out. But, the biggest turn off for me was the false claim! There is no hint of colour, leave aside flush of colour in this lip balm! See for yourself in the pics. I mean, WHY? Why Maybelline has to come up with such a product which is meant for winters and claims to have a flush of colour but to the contrary, this lip balm neither has enough moisturization nor has any sort of faintest colour to it. Highly disappointed!
Loreal needs to rethink their shade options in few of their launches. I got the darkest shade 245 Warm Sand but still, I feel it is lighter for my skintone. Also, this compact doesn’t have the capability to work as a stand alone product, the finish that I get is not so flattering with minimal coverage. When topped over a liquid foundation, it tends to cake up after some time. I am just finishing up the compact now because I’ve purchased it and I don’t want my money to go down the drain.
I really wanted to get my terms sorted with cushion foundations but it seems, for now, that I’ll have to wait a little more time. I got these two foundations almost at the same time and was equally disappointed with both of these. Maybelline has made it their motto not to release apt shades in India and majority of the disappointment lies there. I could still have worked with the formula but the shade just doesn’t suit me. Whereas the Innisfree Long wear cushion, though is apt for oily skinned people like me, gives me an uncomfortable feeling post application. First of all, it applies like ‘chip chip chip’ and doesn’t feel light on the skin at all. The shade range is pathetic too. I am still figuring out how to incorporate these into my makeup routine!
I have done an in-depth review of this. You can check out that post here. I am finishing it off by using it as a body lotion and never buying it again!
I loved their toner and skin firming serum but this one sadly didn’t turn out that amazing for me. I got small zits here and there after using this and also it didn’t do anything in controlling sebum. Also, my skin felt a bit dry on days when I had used this. My husband is currently finishing the bottle. (so nice of him)
This would have been an amazing blush had there been any pigmentation! This blush neither shows up on my cheek nor on my wrist (which is slightly pale than my cheeks). Also, the brush which comes with it is so coarse that I can’t even think of touching my face with it. Refer to the picture on the right and spot a swipe of the blush if you can. (those are multiple swipes btw)
Hmppphh!! Wrapping up my long list here. Just giving a little disclaimer that I don’t have any dislike/hatred towards any of the brands mentioned here. Also, the feelings shown are of my own and not universal, some of these products might as well be on your fav list!
Let me know which ones are on your list. I hope you liked my honest confessions and if you did, do hit the follow button. Show some love to my blog lovelies by liking, sharing and commenting your views/thoughts.

Packaging: The only disappointment is an absence of a pump. For a texture as runny as this, a pump would have been highly helpful. Instead, it has an inner cap which shuts very tight. Ingredients: You can find the entire list below. I have checked the list individually and didn’t find any comedogenic ingredient. Hence this is completely safe for acne prone skin. Also, it contains 87% green tea extract! It’s good to find Camellia Sinensis Leaf (green tea) extract as the very first ingredient in the list!!
The lotion gets absorbed easily into the skin and leaves no greasiness whatsoever. I layer this above my serums (Vitamin C Essence and The Ordinary Buffet serum) and hence my moisture dose is fulfilled by this lotion. If you are using this all by itself, you might need a light weight moisturizer separately. Though this can be applied both during day and night, I use this only in my daytime skincare routine as my night skin care has a different set of products. My sensitive skin has not reacted to any of the ingredients which is a plus point. In fact, it has helped in soothing my acne and diminishing them slowly.
Do I recommend this? Absolutely yes! Though a bit expensive, but this bottle is going to last super long. Hence, it is worth an investment.
