Nyx total control drop foundation review | Oily skin

It’s a tough time for people like me with oily skin to find a foundation which survives all the sebum yet stays the entire day. Trust me, I’ve tried a ton of foundations before I make my opinion. I was waiting for the launch of NYX total control drop foundation ever since it was launched overseas. And finally when it launched on Nykaa, probably I was the first one to grab it. 😬 And now I’ve been using it for more than 2 months and absolutely love it. Let’s jump into the review to find out what makes it so amazing!

Nyx total control drop foundation

Price: It retails for Rs.1250 and we get 13ml of foundation. To purchase, click here.

I know many people are cribbing about the lesser amount but let’s be practical guys, how many foundations have you actually emptied before they hit the expiry? And I am pretty sure, this too will hit the expiry before it hits the bottom of the bottle!

In case if you are still wondering how long this foundation will last you, then Morgan from TheBeautyBreakdown (youtube) has actually counted the number of drops one can get from this tiny bottle, and the count is around 900 drops. (Now calculate for yourself how long this is going to stay with you!)

Packaging: This is my first ever drop foundation btw! It has got a pipette which dispenses the foundation rightly. The dropper is kind of a correct mechanism to get the product out owing to the texture of the foundation.

The (frosted) glass bottle is actually transparent and reflects the colour of the foundation. If you keep the bottle untouched for a day or so, you can actually see the foundation subsiding away from the walls and the transparent glass becomes visible.

Shade: The foundation is released in 15 shades in India. (There are 30 shades available overseas). I had referred to the shade finder available on NYX website to determine my shade and was eyeing for the shade Golden but it wasn’t a part of Indian release. Hence I settled for the shade Classic Tan which lies in the same range but has neutral undertones. Have a complete look at the shade finder here.

Happy with my gamble, the shade turned out to be a very good match for my skin! Also, it has a perfect combination of yellow & neutral tones which balances out my warm complexion.

For reference I am about NC40 in MAC, D7W7 in Loreal True match, 240 in Maybelline Fit Me, 2.1Y in The Ordinary foundations, G3 in Loreal MAt Magique 12H foundation.

Texture: The texture of NYX total control drop foundation is towards the runnier side. It blends in beautifully and looks almost like skin. It imparts sheer to medium coverage. I’ve never tried layering it up as I like my foundations to be minimal and look like my skin.

I don’t follow the instructions on the label which indicates the number of drops to be used to get desired coverage. I usually take 3 drops of foundation at the back of my hand, dot it all over my face and blend in with a flat top kabuki brush. I really like the finish when used this way.

The finish obtained is matte but not flat matte! My skin looks healthy as the foundation covers up the pores & cancels out all redness/pigmentation on my face. It will not cover major pigmentation or discoloration though. The foundation doesn’t cling on to the dry patches on the days when I have moisturized well. But on days when my skin is not behaving properly, the foundation does cling on to the dry patches. (btw, I usually go foundation free on such days)

My verdict on NYX total control drop foundation:

Needless to say, I love this foundation. It is perfect for daily office wear wherein I need my foundation to last the entire day. I just blot after 2-3 hours to keep the oil at bay but the foundation doesn’t budge or crease. I haven’t experienced any breakouts because of this foundation. I have also used it at my sister’s wedding and trust me, I have received a ton of compliments. 😉It neither feels heavy on the skin nor does it feel cakey.

I really recommend the NYX total drop control foundation to those with oily/combination skin. Dry skinned gurls can still try but don’t forget to moisturize well before applying.👍
